Are you struggling with media? Many companies and non-profits get stuck with a bad PR firm that just sends press releases and “monitors” for hits.

I can step up your game by:

  • Recommending the most effective media messaging

  • Conducting trainings on how to speak clearly to media

  • Drafting pitches to get a reporter’s attention

  • Helping you develop relationships with reporters

  • Training in-house staff to take over media duties

  • Developing strategies for media outreach over the long term.

Throughout my 25+ year career of partnering with brands, law firms, and non-profits, I have developed a strong track record of getting effective media results. I have placed numerous stories, including these highlights:

The launch of the Plant Based Foods Association (the organization I founded in 2016) was featured in The New York Times, thanks to my relationship with the publication’s food business reporter. Under my leadership, PBFA soon became the go-to resource among leading business media outlets.

When Unilever sued start-up Hampton Creek (now Eat Just) in 2014, I placed “David vs. Goliath” stories in The New York Times and Associated Press. The coverage, which put Hampton Creek on the media map, continued for several weeks until Unilever dropped its lawsuit. The entire episode was widely recognized as a colossal PR blunder by the food giant.

Over several years, I wrote about lobbying by Monsanto et. al. against activists’ state-by-state efforts to require labeling of GMO foods. When I exposed unethical dealings in Washington State by the nation’s most powerful food lobby, the media coverage led to fines being levied by the attorney general.

Over the years, I have assisted law firms with consumer class actions for deceptive food labeling. I introduced one law firm, Richman Law and Policy to several business reporters, including at Bloomberg, which resulted in coverage of a case against General Mills, among numerous others.

“Michele Simon’s track record in media and communications speaks for itself. She has been a go-to source time and again for leading journalists and media outlets reporting on the intersections of food, sustainability, climate change, and the burgeoning plant-based sector. Her clear, convincing, and forward-thinking communications expertise has ensured she is among the first to be quoted on many stories that are now ubiquitous in the media.”
